Kevin Jesmer NIU UBF
Key Verse: 150:6
“Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD.”

Dear Lord Heavenly Father, thank you for your fatherly love for us, Thank you that you do not treat us as our sins deserve, but that you forgive us and you help us to follow you all through this world of woe. Thank you that you disciple us and train us in the way that we must go so that we can live fruitful lives. I pray that you may help all of my kids to be disciples of Jesus and that they might live by the truth of God. Please help us to introduce Jesus to young people if NIU and Kishwaukee college. Revive our spirits. Help us to preach the gospel to the ends of the earth. Please grant me one word of God, through this passage. I thank you and I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen!

1. Where should we praise God? (1).

Verse 1 reads, 1 Praise the LORD.[a] Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens.“ Praise God in his holy sanctuary, means to praise God where even two or three gather together in Jesus’ name. Instead of complaining, criticizing, and slandering when we get together, we should praise the Lord as the heavenly hosts constantly do in heaven.
How easy it is to complain and criticize when we talk together. Or we can share things that make us despair of life or make us depressed. We should think about our influence on others. We should think about how to encourage one another’s spirit. The way that we can do that is to praise Jesus. This will bring people up and not bring them down. I tend to bring people down in my depressed and despairing silence. But I need to more positively build people up by praising the Lord.

2. Why should we praise God? (2).

Verse 2 reads, “Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness.” We should praise him for his acts of power shown in his marvelous creation. We praise him for his surpassing great love. He sent his one and only Son to die for our sins. Jesus has revealed his acts of power. He has forgiven and is forgiving me of all my sins. He is upholding me. When all I feel like doing sometimes is sleeping and being all alone, Jesus’ power comes into my life and keeps me on the way of life and fruitfulness and on the way of peace. Praise the Lord.

3. How should we praise God? (3-5).

Verse 3-5 read, “3 Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, 4 praise him with timbrel and dancing, praise him with the strings and pipe, 5 praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals.” When words fail, we must praise God with an orchestra. As David danced before God we should dance with all our strength and soul too. There is always something we can do to praise the Lord. I can praise the Lord, through working with a joyful heart. I can praise the Lord, through sharing the word of God with the manuscripts at work. I can praise God with spiritual songs, sung with the barbershop singers. I can praise God through 1:1 Bible study. There are so many ways for me to praise the Lord. I pray that we may praise the Lord this Sunday at the DuPage UBF with our singing and our serving.

4. Who should praise God? (6).

Verse 6 reads, “Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD.” We who have breath must praise the Lord. Hallelujah! My cat and my dogs must praise the Lord. All people, everywhere must praise the Lord. As long as I am alive and have breath I can praise the Lord. I must praise the Lord. The Lord dwells among the praises of his people. To praise the Lord is a source of life to me. There is no other option. I pray that my kids and all of my Bible students may feel the same way.

Prayer: Lord, let me praise you wherever I am with my own life

One Word: Let everything that has breath praise the Lord
