2/11/12 BEWARE OF ALL WICKEDNESS

Proverbs 6:12-35           Key Verse: 6:22

“When you walk, they will guide you; when you sleep, they will watch over you; when you awake, they will speak to you.”

Dear Jesus. Thank you for guiding me through another day. Help me to hold onto you as my Savior. I pray that you continue to bless the kids and their singing. Please teach them to offer up their talents for the glory of God. Please bless the ministry at the hospital, that the Kingdom of God may grow in the hearts of all employees. Please grant me your words in my heart today and help me to grow spiritual a little bit more. I pray in the holy name of Jesus. Amen!

1. Corrupted heart, corrupted body (12-19).

Verses 12-19, “A troublemaker and a villain, who goes about with a corrupt mouth, 13 who winks maliciously with his eye, signals with his feet and motions with his fingers, 14 who plots evil with deceit in his heart— he always stirs up conflict. 15 Therefore disaster will overtake him in an instant; he will suddenly be destroyed—without remedy. 16 There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: 17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, 18 a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, 19 a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.”

Unless we repent of the evil in our hearts, it will eventually come out in our words and in our actions. Evil brings lies to the tongue and corruption to our mouths. Our eyes look at others haughtily and with malicious intent. Our feet signal evil and then rush into it. Our hands shed blood. Instead of being peacemakers, we stir up conflict and dissension in our community. The fact is that God hates these things.(God hates the sin but loves the sinner) Destruction surely awaits anyone who lives like this.

I need to nip sin off at the bud, in my heart through repentance. I don’t want my sinful nature brewing and growing in my heart until it overflows from me. I must control my heart by being daily in the word of God. I must let the Holy Spirit guide me and mold me. The image of God must grow within me. But if I neglect my spiritual life then I will be helpless. There was a story. If you have two dogs, and they fight together, which one will win? The dog that you feed is the one who wins. We need to feed our minds, hearts, bodies and souls with the things of God. When we feed our souls with the words of God, then our spirits become stronger and we can overcome the evil that wants to grow in our hearts.
In the society today we hear about all the terrible injustices against women and children. It seems that this world is growing crazy. People do some things that animals do not even do? Why? it is that people are not controlling their hearts through repenting before the word of God. They end up feeding the wrong dog and the that dog wins over their hearts. They need Jesus. I need Jesus to stand as a Christian in this world.

2. This command is a lamp (20-35).

Look at verses 20-35. From these verses we learn that Godly wisdom guides us when we walk, watches us when we sleep, and speaks to us when we are awake. It leads us to life. This is especially true with the warnings against adultery. Adultery is compared to playing with fire. Jesus said that adultery begins in the heart (Mt 5:28).

These words are very applicable today. It seems that adultery is becoming the norm in relationships and the condition of many hearts. We can not get away from a movie or a t.v. program, or a song that glorifies that lifestyle. But if give into that temptation, even in our hearts, it will bring much heartache. I must protect my heart…and again it is through holding on to and letting the word of God work in my heart and life. There is no other way. Without the word of God, I am helpless. I like the words from verses 20-23, “ My son, keep your father’s command and do not forsake your mother’s teaching. 21 Bind them always on your heart; fasten them around your neck. 22 When you walk, they will guide you; when you sleep, they will watch over you; when you awake, they will speak to you. 23 For this command is a lamp, this teaching is a light, and correction and instruction are the way to life, “ I pray for the young people of this nation, that they my make the word of God a lamp unto their feet that they may walk in the narrow way that leads to eternal life, and not in the ways of this world that lead to much suffering in this life and in the end…eternal condemnation.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for your word which is a lamp in this dark world. Cleanse my heart from evil and fill it with your grace and truth. .

One Word: Walk in Godly wisdom
