“Evildoers do not understand what is right, but those who seek the LORD understand it fully.”

Dear Lord, thank you for giving me strength to carry on with a week of vey hard work. You help me to persevere and be responsible. Thank you for the inner strength that you give. Lord, I pray that all my kids and friends that you have brought into my life, may take deep root in the words of God and have a love relationship with Jesus Christ. Please make daily devotional writing a regular part of my life. May your word take root and grow in my heart today. I thank you and I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen!

Part 1: The Righteous Are As Bold As a Lion (1-6).

Verses 1 reads, “The wicked flee though no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion.” This verse compares and contrasts the righteous and the wicked. The righteous are those who have a right relationship with God. The wicked are those who have a wrong relationship with God and oppose God and the ways of God. It makes a big difference in life if you are one of righteous. The right righteous have no fear of people, for they trust God and rely on God. They know with the Lord, they can scale a mountain. In 1986, when I was a new a new Christian, I was impressed with the missionaries because they were bold. They were overcoming all elements of living in Canada even though they were from Korea. They were bold to reach out to even hostile students and teach them the Bible and disciple them. There are so many circumstances in life, where we become scared and want to give up and retreat. But faith in Jesus makes us as bold as a lion. They are as bold as a lion. But the wicked run away when no one is chasing them. A man of understanding maintains stability in the midst of an immoral and perverse generation. To keep the law of God makes men wise. He who seeks the Lord understands justice.

The author teaches us about the importance of wise instruction. Look at verse 2-6, 9, “When a country is rebellious, it has many rulers, but a ruler with discernment and knowledge maintains order. 3 A ruler who oppresses the poor is like a driving rain that leaves no crops. 4 Those who forsake instruction praise the wicked, but those who heed it resist them. 5 Evildoers do not understand what is right, but those who seek the LORD understand it fully. 6 Better the poor whose walk is blameless than the rich whose ways are perverse…. 9 If anyone turns a deaf ear to my instruction, even their prayers are detestable.” These verses teach me the importance of seeking instruction from the Lord. If we are taught by the Lord, then we can have spiritual discernment and knowledge. We can be good mentors and leaders. Order can be maintained in our home, towns and country. There are failing societies because people do not seek instruction from the Lord. God’s instruction will give us understanding. We can be blessing. We may not get rich, but we will have stability and we will be protected from perversion and chaos in our lives. That is good enough for me.

Part ll: The Righteous Heed Instruction (7-12).

It is not good to be a selfish, godless glutton. Verses 7-12 read, “A discerning son heeds instruction, but a companion of gluttons disgraces his father. 8 Whoever increases wealth by taking interest or profit from the poor amasses it for another, who will be kind to the poor….. 10 Whoever leads the upright along an evil path will fall into their own trap, but the blameless will receive a good inheritance. 11 The rich are wise in their own eyes; one who is poor and discerning sees how deluded they are. 12 When the righteous triumph, there is great elation; but when the wicked rise to power, people go into hiding.”

These verses teach us the wrong that the godless and selfish produce. They may act out of their selfishness, but they also cause other people to suffer a lot. The cause disgrace, they take wealth from the poor, the lead people on an evil path, they cause people to go into hiding, thereby stifling creativity and the economy. In short, they cause a lot of suffering. It is just plain wrong to be selfish and wicked. We need to be counted among the righteous. Then we can be discerning people. We can receive a good inheritance. We can see past the delusions of the wicked. The righteous cause great elation and happiness. People do not have to hide. They can come out and live a fruitful life. Lord, please work in peoples’ hearts and establish the righteous.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for your word that makes people wise, bold, and right.

One Word: Seek the Lord
