A & W in Thompson

A&W was simply magical. The fun started as soon as you turned the corner into the drive-in restaurant. You would tell your parents the order. Your dad or mom would tell the order into the speaker and then, after a short wait, a lady would carry your order on a tray and place it on your dad’s window. The lady would punch out the change from a device on her belt and walk away as the parents distributed the food orders to all in the car. It was really a treat. I enjoyed the strawberry milkshakes and the teen burgers. My dad ordered a whistle dog. In high school, pulling into A&W was always fun. The managers did not take “unkindly” talk to the employees. They were quick to defend them and shut down such talk. I included a jingle to a 1960’s radio advertisement that I still remember.  The original A & W was on station road. It was later the Tasty Burger and is now a pizza restaurant. Today, the building contains a meat store called Ripple Rock Meats. The surrounding parking lot is nothing like I remembered with A&W there. The A&W Root Bear was posted by a group member several days ago. I want to thank them for the picture.
