Communities along the winter road to Bearskin Lake NW Ontario 2018

Communities along the winter road to Bearskin Lake 2018. Some friends of mine drove along the winter road to Bearskin Lake NW Ontario. On the winter road was a sign pointing to several communities. It would be interesting to know what these communities are like, without having to drive the entire road system to see for yourself. Now you can do is virtually, right here. Just follow the links:

OUR COMMUNITIES
In August 1977, four Chiefs from distinct, independent communities met to discuss a collaborative venture. Arthur Beardy (Muskrat Dam), Tom Kamenawatamin (Bearskin Lake), Marty McKay (Sachigo Lake), and Saul Keeash (North Caribou Lake), decided that it was in their best mutual interests to develop a winter road to link all four communities.
Thus, the Windigo Lake Transporation Company was born.
It was a product of much common sense and foresight on the part of these leaders. The Chiefs realized that they need to find ways to help each other. Prior to the intiative, there was minimal communication at the political and community development level.
With the cost of air transportation and freight goods increasing, it was apparent that it would be more cost effective to transport building materials, store goods and fuel over land. Efficiency could only be realized if the communities worked together. The development of a winter road had additional benefits in that it provided many jobs, which helped supplement seasonal earnings.
