Esso Stations in Thompson

2nd and 3rd Generation page

Esso Gas Station: There have been some posts in the past about the Esso Station. Some people posted about old trucks and how Esso sponsored a stock car by supplying oil. Some pics were from the 50s and 60s page. Without everyone’s contribution I couldn’t put this group of pics together. Thank you all. I grew up seeing the Esso station across from the Canadian Tire Store, in the Plaza parking lot. I was in the same class as Kim Ernest (a great guy). I remember him working there while we were going to high school. From some old pictures, it looks like the Esso station was on Selkirk Road. Were there two of them? It seems that the Esso Station was a main stay in the community and very visible to all motorists. It appears the MTS store is there now. Did anyone work there? Was it your family go to place for auto maintenance?

Plaza Esso in mid to late 70s. It was owned by Ken Hebner then. After he sold it, it was a few different businesses, including a donut shop, MTS agent, now in the Plaza, Taco Tyme, and then an East Indian restaurant. It was burned a few years ago. A new DQ just opened a few weeks ago at that location. Ernest family had the bulk plant and Westdale Esso. – Ken Pittman.
