Foreston Minnesota. The Home Of Many “Jesmer’s” in the 1890’s.  Some of the early residents in this small Minnesota town were part of the Jesmer Clan.

FORESTON, a city in section 33 of Milo Township about three miles west of Milaca, is partly surrounded by a hardwood forest. It was incorporated as a village on May 9, 1889. The lumber industry created the community on the west branch of the Rum River, naming it Bridgman, and established a post office, 1882-89, with Coleman Bridgeman as postmaster; the name was changed to Foreston in 1889. – See more at: http://www.lakesnwoods.com/Foreston.htm#History

 

A post office called Foreston has been in operation since 1889. The city was named for the forests near the original town site.

 

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.43 square miles (3.70 km2), of which 1.42 square miles (3.68 km2) is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 km2) is water.[1] Minnesota Highway 23 serves as a main route in the community.

Adolphus D. Jesmer  A resident of Foreston MN at one time.

History of the Upper Mississippi Valley: A. D. JESMER is a native of Franklin county, New York, born on the 7th of June, 1846. At the age of twenty years, he commenced life for himself; engaged in the lumber business in his native State for a year, then came to St. Paul, Minnesota, and the same year (1867) located a claim in section thirty-two, Greenbush township, and has since li ved here. Mr. Jesmer was a member of the board of County Commissioners for six successive years, and is at present Town Clerk, having held the office several terms. He was united in marriage with Julia Ann Robideaux, on the 9th of September, 1868.

The Jesmer Brothers, Louis and Moses, opened up a restaurant that sold some groceries in Foreston MN in 1892-93. (according to the Foreston Breezes)

Eunice Rose Jesmer [Parents] was born in <1870/1872> in Greenbush Twp, Mille Lacs, MN. She died on 19 Nov 1898 in North Branch, MN. The cause of death was Consumption. She married 1Emanuel Gustave Waldhoff on 6 Oct 1892 in Mille Lacs Co, MN.

1901- in Joseph Jesmer’s obit he is named “Waldhoff”, and lives in North Branch w/ Eunice.

Emmanuel Gustave Waldhoff and his wife Eunice started a general merchandise store in Foreston in 1893. He was a a successful businessman.
