From the Bible’s point of view, the concept of evil is even being selfish or self centered. Roman 2:6-9. “ God “will repay each person according to what they have done.” To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger. There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile;” (NIV)  Those who are self-seeking, reject the truth and follow evil will be judged, the Bible tells us.

In the movie the idea of evil is extreme evil. Genesis 6:5-6, ” 5 The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. 6 The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled.” (NIV) There is violence without limit and cruelty. Evil also extends to the exploitation and degradation of the environment. It was like living in an insane asylum world.

I agree that with the director that the whole world was evil in the time of Noah. The Bible says that the world was filled with violence. I think that the director went to extremes because secular people cannot fathom evil as being simply selfish and living without the Lord. They agree that Hitler and serial killers should go to hell but not the guy down the street who lives without God and without salvation. I personally don’t think that the times of Noah were so outwardly hellishly evil. Most of the violence was against mankind. But I will agree that violence against creation was occurring.
