I am now thankful for backyard graduation parties.

I am now thankful for backyard graduation parties.  The American drinking age is 21. This has produced family oriented graduation parties. There are numerous backyard parties where parents invite people over to honor their kids. These could go on for 3 weeks after grad. Parents are always welcome. It is a great custom.
