JESUS’ TESTIMONY TO THE SANHEDRIN

JESUS’ TESTIMONY TO THE SANHEDRIN
Mark 14:43-72 Wednesday, April 4
Key Verse: 14:62

1. Jesus was betrayed and arrested (43-52).
Judas led an armed mob to Jesus. The traitor’s signal was ironically a kiss, a sign of affection. Jesus did not repel him. One disciple swung a sword, but that was not Jesus’ way. Jesus was arrested, and the disciples fled, fulfilling Scripture (27).

2. Jesus was tried by the Sanhedrin (53-65).
Jesus was tried by the Jewish high court while Peter watched secretly. Many testified against him, but their testimonies did not agree. The high priest asked Jesus about the testimonies, but Jesus remained silent. So the high priest asked him directly, “Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?” (61). Read Jesus’ reply (62). Jesus is the Christ who will come again in glory. They all condemned him for blasphemy, which was worthy of death.

3. Peter denied Jesus three times (66-72).
Jesus’ bold “I am” testimony is a great contrast to Peter’s denials of Jesus. After three denials, the rooster crowed, just as Jesus foretold, and Peter wept. All these things fulfilled Scripture.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, you are the Christ, our Savior, coming again one day in glory. Forgive my failures and embolden me to speak up for you.

One Word: Jesus Christ will come again in glory; speak up for him
