Brief History Of Quill City School District

This is a brief history of Quill City school district. The Quill City district was approximately three or four square miles, with the school being about five miles, slightly southwest of Wadena Saskatchewan.  This was the area that the Jesmer family came to from Minnesota, in 1903 or 1904. The John Statland family, also came from Minnesota in 1905. Ole Statland came to this area, with his son Edwin, from North Dakota in 1926. Lena, his wife, came with her daughter Alice, from North Dakota, in January 1929.

This district never consisted of a town or a village, only a school, which was school, concert hall, meeting place and even the church for the area. Quill City school, first opened in the spring of 1908. It closed its doors at Easter 1952. The remaining students were bused to Wadena. The building still exists as a storage building on the farm of David and Howard Jesmer.
