On Saturday’s we plan to star the “Engage your Worship”  home group. Here are some planning notes.

Part l: What Can Engage Our Worship, Be?

The purpose is to prepare people for Sunday and get in the right mindset for worship.

We will have 2 hours. The first hour can be ministry aspects of the church

The second hour can be preparation for Sunday.

The important thing is to have interaction.

We can pray. Pray for what is going on, on State Street. We can have targeted prayer for the community.

There are several things involved in worship.

  1. Worship
  2. Communion
  3. Service
  4. Fellowship

How can we build upon our worship experience to draw closer to Christ and to one another?

How do you think we can grow in our worship? Any thoughts?

The theme of this year is Engage! How do we engage our community? How do we reach out to those around us? I think that we can look at the first century Christians. Think about their fellowship. In the book of Acts….

Acts 2:42-47, 42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. 43 And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. 44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common. 45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. 46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.” (ESV)

Acts 4:32-37,  Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common. 33 And with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. 34 There was not a needy person among them, for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold 35 and laid it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need. 36 Thus Joseph, who was also called by the apostles Barnabas (which means son of encouragement), a Levite, a native of Cyprus, 37 sold a field that belonged to him and brought the money and laid it at the apostles’ feet.” (ESV)

Acts 5:42, And every day, in the temple and from house to house, they did not cease teaching and preaching that the Christ is Jesus.” (ESV)

We need to open our eyes to the many opportunities that God has opened for us to grow.

  1. We can share information on what is happening on Sundays in order to pray for these things.
  2. We can also go over the Bible reading, reflecting on the passage in order to prepare our hearts.
  3. We can also review the week’s prayer requests given to us through the KBC web site. There are prayers and updates on ministry that we should be abreast of in order to be engaged. Knowing the details can increase the depth of our time of fellowship if we understand each others prayer needs. This can foster concern and build up community among us.

Prong 2:

We can discuss ways on  how to do invite people to the Sunday worship. We can pray for our neighbors and God’s blessings and salvation on our neighbors. Is there any way we can approach our worship with a new paradigm. Do we need to look outside of the box?

There could be a time dedicated to accountability. For example we can follow up with our attempts to reach out to our neighbors.

We may also want to become more aware of and pray for the various ministries going on among the people of our church.

We could think about 18 various ministries that we need to pray for:

  1. Sunday worship stewardship:
  2. Reaching out to HUD home:
  3. Network of Nations
  4. Rochelle Church plant
  5. Oklahoma
  6. Honduras
  7. Canada ministry
  8. Sunday morning prayer
  9. Thursday morning prayer
  10. VacationBibleSchool
  11. Singing in nursing homes –
  12. Art of Marriage Seminars –
  13. Prison visitation ministry –
  14. The Engage series at KBC
  15. Food Drives
  16. Home groups
  17. Foster parents
  18. Reaching out to the people in Evergreen trailer park

What about learning more about these ministries? We could invite representatives to give a short presentation so we can know about what is doing on.
