My grandfather’s old school house. (built 1907) pic 2013
This is my grandfather’s old school house. The Quill City school house was built in 1907. I was told that Carl and Harvey Jesmer went to school there. Harvey is my grandfather. The school house is on Howard and Gloria Jesmer’s farm. Originally it was three miles away and later it was moved to the present location. It was located in Quill City which was nothing more than the school house and the surrounding farms. According to Ted Jesmer, the school also functioned as a meeting hall, dance hall and church. I can’t imagine having a dance in that small building. He also stated that Carl Jesmer’s wife, Jessie, was a teacher there at one time.
