The Time Is Right-short Christian drama

(Game show cheering and Jeopardy playing as the shepherd and the angel come on the stage. There are three boxes in Christmas wrapping on a table and sheet as a back drop and a sign that says “The Time Is Right”.)

 

Scene 1:   The Introduction Of The Contestants

 

Shepherd:  Welcome to the “Time Is Right!” The show where you have a chance to leave this old

world behind and take hold the most fabulous treasure ever created by God. What is it

you ask? Well, that would be giving it all away? And today we want to do that, but in

God’s right time.

 

Angel:  Today we will meet three contestants who are totally entwined in this world and seem

like unlikely candidates to ever take hold of  the most fabulous treasure ever created by

God…but as in past shows we may be surprised today.

 

Shepherd:   Today we there will be three contestants chosen from our studio audience who will

be given the chance of a  lifetime to take hold of the greatest treasure ever created by

God. Do you want to be part this?  (Audience cheers. The Angel brings a basket with

names in pieces of paper. The shepherd reaches in and pulls out a the names of three

people…)

 

Shepherd: Brian Dugan… come on down.     (the each runs to the stage waving their hands and

cheering. )

Sheila Taylor….Come on down .  (She comes down with her boyfriend.)

Chantelle Wilson…Come on down.    It your turn to play…..THE TIME IS RIGHT!

(All the audience says “The time is right” in unison. There can be a person holding a sign to tell the audience what to do.)

 

They all stand on the stage in a row. Brian is a muscle bound body builder who loves his own body. Shiela is a girl who loves her boy friend and her friends. She is constantly texting and talking on the cell phone and has a guy hanging around her. Chantelle is very hard working person who works two jobs so she can have fancy clothes, all the extras. She ignores her friends and God in order to work….they all stand on the stage in a row.

 

Shepherd: Brian, those are some very impressive muscles you have there.

 

Brian: Thanks shepherd.

 

Shepherd: What is involved in getting some “Hurtin’ bombs” like that? (He feels Brian’s biceps)

 

Brian: Thank for asking. (He flexes his muscles) I work out at the gym every single day. I really

enjoy the staring at my body as I pump iron. (He makes weight lifting gestures

worshipping his body. He startes counting reps. (One two three…feel the burn…oh yeah!

(He makes a weight lifting pose.)

 

Shepherd:  That’s nice Brain..Can you go and wait backstage?

 

Brian: (Comes back to reality from worshipping himself.) Oh yeah! Of course Shepherd. (Brian runs off the stage.)

 

Shepherd: Our next contestant is Shiela. Welcome to our game show? Who is your friend?

Shiela: Oh he’s my boyfriend. (leans over to him) What’s your name? (She puts on lip stick)

 

Boy friend: Bob. (He keeps hanging around and looking interested.)

 

Shiela: I am so glad to be on the show Mr. Shepherd. I…(her cell phone goes off)   Ha Ha  Ha.

Of course I will be at the party tonight. I’ve got to go now. I am on a game show. Text

me later. ..I’m sorry Mr Shepherd. What did you say?

 

Shepherd: I just wanted say how happy we are for you to be on our show and I hope that you

walk away from this show being more than a conqueror through him who loved us.

(Audience cheers)

 

Sheila: I’ll feel like a conqueror if my boyfriend loves me. (She looks at him) What is your name

again?

 

Boy friend: Bob.

 

Shepherd: Well, Sheila, can you and Bob go back stage until, “The Time Is Right”  (audience

cheers. Shiela walks off stage, texting with Bob in tow.)

 

Shepherd: Our next contestant is Cbantelle. Chantelle can you tell us little about yourself?

 

Chantelle:   Certainly Mr Shepherd. Well, I love money. I never want to go without. If there is a

nice purse, well I just have to have it. Do you know what I mean shepherd?  (She is

carrying a nice purse and shopping bags.)

 

Shepherd:  Well, I am satisfied with what God has to give me. I have learned to be content in

each and every situation.

 

Chantelle: I can’t even begin to understand that.

 

Shepherd:  Where do you get all this money?

 

Chantelle:  I work… a lot. Actually Mr Shepherd, I work two jobs, almost 70 hours a week. I

need too, because I can’t bear walking through a mall and not buying all that my little

heart desires.

 

Shepherd: We hope that you can get all your heart desires on “The Time is Right” (Audience Cheers)

 

Chantelle: I hope so too.

 

Shepherd:  Can you join the other contestants back stage. (He leads her off stage.)

 

Scene ll: Brian Gives Up His Chance For A Resurrection Body

 

Brian:   Wow! I found some heavy boxes backstage and I was able to get a great workout.

 

Shepherd: Thats great Brian. But I want you to take your eyes off of your pecs and take a look at

the box in front of the angel. Angel can you give a little description of what’s in the

box?

 

Angel:       What’s in this box is exactly what you have been longing for all along. You have

been working hard to to get yourself, but could not, of it is something that only God

can give.

 

Shepherd:  That is all we are going to tell you Brian. Are you willing to give up worshipping

your own body and spending endless hours in the gym at the expense of your spiritual

life, for what is in the box? What is your decision?

 

(There is a clock ticking. The audience are yelling “Choose the box” and “Keep worshipping yourself.”  Shepherd and the angel are praying together for Brian’s salvation.)

 

Shepherd: Have you made your decision Brian.

Brain: I have. And I think I will keep on worshipping myself. I’ve worked hard for these babies

and I’m not gunna  stop building them up.

 

Angel: Brian we are going to give you some more time to think it over. (The clock starts to tick.

Audience starts to yell. 2 masked people take away his muscles and leave him standing

with crutches weak.  Angel and Shepherd are praying for him to make the right  decision.)

 

Shepherd:  Well, Brian. It seems as time went by you lost all that you were working so hard to get and all you are left with is a weak, perishable, powerless body. Do you want to give it up and choose what is in the box.?

 

Brian:  I’ve thought about it. And I know that if I take the right supplements and work out harder

I can get it all back. I’m sorry Shepherd, I’m going keep what I got.

 

Shepherd:  OK, that is your choice. Let’s see what you gave up. Angel?

Angel: Well shepherd, under this box is the promise of an incredible resurrection body. ( She

picks up a white card with these words written in them.)  “So will it be with the

           resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable;

          43it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power;

          44it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body….”    (The Audience says,

“Awwwe.” )

 

The personification of death comes from behind the door and drags Brian away.

 

Brain:  No No! I changed my mind. I want give up trying get a six pack. I  totally want ot get a

resurrection body. Please…. (He gets dragged away.)

 

Scene lll: Sheila Keeps Her Fading Glory

Shepherd: That’s too bad Angel. He could have made the right choice.

 

Angel: It sad when this happens. Maybe our next contestant will make the right choice.

 

Shepherd:  Yes…And our next contestant is Sheila and ….err…Bob. (Sheila comes on talking on

her cell phone.)  (Audience is applauding.)

 

Shepherd:  Sheila, you have a chance to win the most spectacular prize…tell us a little about it

Angel.

 

Angel:     Glad to Bob. What we have under this box is what we want, deep down in our hearts,

but can only obtain it with God’s help.

 

Shepherd: Well, you heard it. What is your decision Sheila, do you want to hold into to your

popularity, party life image, having guys hanging on your every word, or do you want

what is under box number 2? What will it be Sheila?

 

(The timer is going off. Audience is yelling, “Keep partying.  Keep your boyfriend. Take the Box.”  Shepherd and Angel are praying two by two. A bell goes off)

 

Angel:  Well, Sheila what will it be?

 

Sheila: Well, I don’t know. I like my social life and I do like…er…er..what  is your name again?

 

Boyfriend:  Bob.

 

Sheila: Oh yeah Bob…I don’t know if I can give it up.

 

Angel:  Do you need more time?

 

Sheila: Yes…I need more time. I don’t know what to do?

 

Angel: We’ll pray for you.

 

Sheila:  Thanks.

 

(The timer is going off. Audience is yelling, “Keep partying.  Keep your boyfriend. Take the Box.”  Shepherd and Angel are praying two by two for Sheila’s salvation. 2 masked people take away her cell phone and then her lipstick. The Bob taps her on the shoulder.

Bob:    Sheila…I can’t keep waiting around. Your not getting any younger, do you know what I

mean. See you later.  (He waves good by and leaves.)

 

Shepherd:  Sheila. we’ve been praying for you. What is your decision the party life image or box

#2?

 

Shiela: Well, Mr Shepherd. I feel bad that….what’s his name…yes Bob….left me, but it is not

too late.  I  can get my hair done and get  someone else, like that (She snaps her fingers in

Shepherd’s face) Just like that I tell you. I am not washed up. I still have hope. I am going

to keep what I have.

 

Shepherd:  Well, if that is your choice. Angel, what did Sheila give up?

Angel:  (She lifts up the box and picks up a white card with words written on them. Mr Shepherd,

Shiela could have possessed the glorious and unfading image of Jesus Christ. “The first

             man was of the dust of the earth, the second man from heaven. 48As was the earthly man,

             so are those who are of the earth; and as is the man from heaven, so also are those who

             are of heaven. 49And just as we have borne the likeness of the earthly man, so shall we

                  bear the likeness of the man from heaven.”  (The Audience says,  “Awwwe.” )

 

Shepherd:  I’m sorry Sheila.

 

The personification of death comes from behind the door and drags Sheila  away.

 

Shiela:    No please give me another chance. I give up on seeking my own human glory. I always

wanted to look like Jesus with his long hair. Help  help!

 

Scene lV:  Chantelle Makes The Right Choice

 

Shepherd: Well Angel. We have one more contestant. Chantelle. Everybody please welcome

Chantelle. (Audience applauses as Chantelle walks on the stage.)

 

Shepherd: Welcome Chantelle. You are our last contestant on “The Time Is Right.” How do you

feel?

 

Chantelle:  I feel nervous Mr Shepherd. I have butterflies in my stomach. This is not like me. I’m

usually so busy working overtime and shopping that I don’t have time to be nervous.

Maybe it is my way for forgetting all about my troubles of life.

 

Shepherd: Thanks for your honesty Chantelle. But let’s get to the reason that we all came here

today, for…”The Time Is Right.”  (Audience Applauses.)

 

Shepherd: Chantelle, do you want to keep working yourself to the bone in order to buy all the

cheap, imported accessories you want…or do you want to choose box number 3?

(The clock starts to tick. Audience yells difference things. “Keep working yourself to the bone” “Keep shopping”, “Choose box number 3”. Angel and Shepherd are praying for

Chantelle.)

 

Shepherd:  Well Chantelle. Have you made your decision.

 

Chantelle: Yes Mr Shepherd, I have. These past few minutes have been agonizing for me. I  was

faced with a big decision, to give the only life I have known, working and shopping

and working and shopping. That’s all I’ve ever done since I was a teenager. It’s tough

you know?

 

Shepherd: We know Chantelle. We know and understand. Don’t we audience? (Audience says,

“Awe”)

 

Chantelle: To give that up for something uncertain is so hard for someone like me.

 

Shepherd: The time has come Chantelle…what are you going to do?  (waits) Do you need more

time?

 

Chantelle:  No..I don’t think so. I am pretty sure I have made up my mind.

 

Shepherd:  But how can you be so certain?

 

Chantelle:  The life I have been living is so meaningless. I work two jobs for minimum wage and

I only spend it on junk…really. I will just get arthritis and stress. My employers will

use me and then kick me out and what will I have…some nice purses. I know that

my short life on earth is more important than that? I have faith that what is on box

number three is good for me.

 

Shepherd: That amazing Chantelle. I have seen such great faith in all of America. Angel…what

has Chantelle chosen for herself?

 

(Bell rings vigourously)

 

Shepherd:  Do you know what that means?

 

Chantelle: No!

 

Shepherd: It means you are our grand prize winner!   (Chantelle screams) (Audience is instructed

to scream.)

 

Angel:      Well, Mr Shepherd Angel has just chosen one the most meaningful, everlasting reward

for such a hard working person like herself. Infact she has won two prizes.  (She lifts

the box and picks out the first card  and

reads,  verses 3-4,   ““For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance;

               that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he

               was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures…” She has received gospel faith.

And not only that there is another prize,  (She reads the next card)        

“57But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

                Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give

               yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord

               is not in vain..”  Chantelle has received absolute meaning of life in the Lord Jesus!

(audience yells)

 

Shepherd: Congratulations Chantelle. (Recording of cheering) You have gained the victory over

sin and death through your faith in Jesus. And all of your hard work in the Lord is

no longer in vain. You can look forward to rich

and abundant reward in heaven.

 

Chantelle:  Thank you Jesus! Thank You Jesus! (She jumps around. People come up to hug her.)

 

Shepherd:   What a wonderful ending. Chantelle is so happy. And so can you . All you have

to do is let go of the perishing things of this world and take hold of the things of God

with resurrection faith in your heart.   So long until next time when you can be the

next contestant on …..The Time Is Right! (Audience shouts in unison.)
