The Ukrainian Catholic Church in Thompson

2nd and 3rd Generation page

The Ukrainian Hall. I had so many great times there. Jared Sasek once said that the Ukrainian Hall had it all, “It had God, music, dancing, booze and perogies….everything that a growing boy needs.” I especially liked the Broom Ball Team Fundraising Socials. Ten dollars a ticket. It was totally worth it. Actually, any sports team fundraiser was great. The parking lot was full. They played popular music. They even played polka music and we danced the 3-person butterfly dance. There was the Locomotion Dance Train and the Bird Dance.  I realize how rare these socials are. They are actually a thing…The Manitoba Social. We can never have a social down here like that in the States. There are too many different groups. It would become a RAVE with guns. But the “formula” we had in Thompson made these wonderful socials possible. They were safe and open to all who could buy a ticket. Most people knew each other. The closest thing we have down here is a wedding social every ten years. The hall is for sale. How about someone buy it and set up a fund to keep it going, even it loses money? The pictures I pulled off the internet. Some pictures of people dancing are not from Thompson. They just give you an idea.
