Thompson Inn…Serving Thompson since the beginning.

Link to 2nd and 3rd Generation page

Only Sharing Good and Positive Memories of the Thompson Inn. (We are not here to knock a local businesses). Whether we have gone to this hotel or not, it is part of Thompson. It was part of growing up in Thompson. The hotel was in our town since 1958. It used to be the “go to place” for early Thompsonites. I think Otto Bindle was one of the original managers of the restaurant there. The Thompson Inn is a gathering place for many fellow Thompsonites over the last 64 years. Sixty three years is a long time!! When I was coming of age at the age of eighteen, it was a mysterious place. I never knew much about it. How could that be? I walked by the hotel for 18 years. How things would be different if I could turn back the hands of time. In 1981-1983 we dared each other to go into the Thompson Inn. After the bars were closed we would go to the back of the Thompson Inn and wade through the one hundred people also there to buy beer. It was a thrill to go and by a couple cases of beer. The taxi cabs were filling up their trunks with cases of beer to sell their riders at highly inflated prices. Whenever I went there I was always to be treated with respect. I wish I would have eaten at their restaurants. I wish I would have talked to people in the lounges. I bet they have delicious food. They also have live bands, country and country rock. That would have sounded good. For those who have not gone in, here is a virtual tour. What are your positive and encouraging memories of the Thompson Inn? And so…here’s to the Thompson Inn. Thanks for 64 years serving Thompsonites.

An excerpt from the web site: Located in the Largest City in Northern Manitoba, The Thompson Inn was constructed in 1958 and was the town’s very first hotel facility.

The Thompson Inn has been the first of many businesses. The Royal Bank (first bank in Thompson) was housed inside these walls. The first area’s radio station also called the Thompson Inn its home.

A number of political personalities have visited Thompson from the early days and found refuge at the Thompson Inn, most notable was a Cabinet Minister who when on to be Prime Minister of Canada, Jean Chretien.
