Yes…I Found The Hidden Quarry Near Sioux Lookout And It Is Glorious

Report on the Quarry, By Kevin E. Jesmer                                                                   8-15-15

Over the past few youth group trips, I have heard about the Quarry, near Sioux Lookout, Ontario. I did searches on the internet, but I could find nothing about it. But after this year’s trip, I could see why. I was not there personally, but our youth group went there and my daughter told me about it. It is a hidden gem, where people can feed their desire for adventure until they are overflowing. It is like an ultimate challenge, like “survivor north country. “

The quarry is 40 minutes drive out of the town of Sioux Lookout. Not everyone knows about it. People would say, “Hey, let’s go to quarry”.  When you leave the highway, there is 10 minutes of traveling on a gravel road. You park and you are 20 feet up and there is big space where people could have fires. There are no picnic tables, or formal picnic area. It is rocky. There is a place where you can walk down to the water. It is green, aqua in color. There are turtles, large turtles, with shells 20 inches in radius. A person could walk along the trail, through the trees to the left. There is a break in the trees. The trail is rougher. You get to the 60 feet cliff. There is an area the size of room. There are rocks where you can sit off the edge and look down.

When you jump, you just can’t think about it. Do not dive in. Just jump in…straight up. If you don’t hit the water right you get hurt. You need to pencil dive. If your hands aren’t right at your side you get slapped. You can’t touch the bottom. It is kind of scary but it is cool because you can still see the water no matter how deep you go.
