Proverbs 30:1-10
Key Verse: 30:5

“Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.”

Dear Lord, thank you so much for saving me from my sins and guiding my life and helping me to dwell in you. I also thank you for the strength and the meaning that you bring. I pray that you may help us to find direction for next weeks conference. Please help us to continually preach the Gospel and raise disciples among campus students. Please illuminate our hearts and guide us according to your word. I thank you and I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen!

Part 1: God and His Word Never Fail? (1-6).

Verses 1-6 read, “The sayings of Agur son of Jakeh—an inspired utterance. This man’s utterance to Ithiel: “I am weary, God, but I can prevail. 2 Surely I am only a brute, not a man; I do not have human understanding. 3 I have not learned wisdom, nor have I attained to the knowledge of the Holy One. 4 Who has gone up to heaven and come down? Whose hands have gathered up the wind? Who has wrapped up the waters in a cloak? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is the name of his son? Surely you know! 5 “Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. 6 Do not add to his words, or he will rebuke you and prove you a liar.”

The author was a wise man, but he admitted his weaknesses, limitations and his ignorance about the Holy One. He knows that he can not carry on in his own strength. But he turns to God. He knows certain things about God and ponders many things. Who has gone up to heaven and come down? Who created all things? He is God the Father and God the Son. Jesus, the Son was with God the Father, when God created the wind, sea, waters, and earth. Jesus is God (Jn 1:1). He came down and has gone up to heaven. He will come again. Jesus is our Savior. Agur also realizes that God’s word if source of strength. He understands that God’s every word is flawless. We can depend on it. When we accept the word of God as it is, the word of God, then we can be saved from our weariness, brutishness, and lack of understanding. But in order for the word of God to have such power we must not change it, rather we should accept it for what it is, the life giving word of God and change ourselves according to the word of God.

In this world I would be very weary without God. I would find it very hard to carry on each day. There are many times when it is only by God’s strength that I could get up and go to work. But then I pray and each day I write my daily devotion and Jesus helps me to carry on and be faithful to serve his purpose in my life, that is to be a husband, father, pastor, friend and nurse. I thank God for the new website that Larry set me up with. It acts as a catalyst to get into the Bible and write out my daily devotions each day. The writing and posting of my devotionals inspires me to sit and think and dig deep into the word of God and it makes a huge difference in my life.

To me the word of God is flawless. It accomplishes what it claims to do, to make the Kingdom of God grow in my heart. It ushers in salvation. It breaks down strongholds. It converts. (There is an atheist blogger who converted to Catholicism.) The word of God brings me life and strength. It gives me wisdom to navigate this world. I pray for the young people of America to trust in the Word of God.

Part ll: Two Things I Ask of God (7-10).

Verses 7-10 read, “Two things I ask of you, LORD; do not refuse me before I die: 8 Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. 9 Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, ‘Who is the LORD? Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God. 10 “Do not slander a servant to their master, or they will curse you, and you will pay for it.”

The author asked God, “Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches” (8). Why? Falsehood and lies lead us to indulge in worldly honor, power, and glory. Too much riches may lead us to disown God. Too much poverty also may make us steal and dishonor God. His only desire was not to disown the name of the Lord God in any case.

I thank God for fulfilling our desires. In Christ, we are content. God does provide all things for those who seek God’s kingdom as top priority in their lives. (Matt 6:33) But he does not always give what we want…he gives what we need. We can be satisfied and contented in Jesus. I thank God for helping me to realize that the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence. It is the greenest where God has placed me and he has placed me right here. Lord, help our people to be content with the good things you bring into our lives.

Prayer: Lord, forgive my ignorance and enlighten my spirit to know you better through your word.”
