To me, this was an interesting find. This is not a First Nation community. It is a drill camp owned and operated by a mining company. They are drilling core samples, searching for minerals to mine. It is located in the Ring of Fire region. It is located in between some First Nation communities. I just wanted to post this, for it is a camp in the midst of First Nations communities.

McFaulds Lake is a lake in the region of Ontario, the country of Canada with an average elevation of 509 feet above sea level. The location is sparsely populated with 0 people per mile2 . The nearest town larger than 50,000 inhabitants takes about 13:28 hour by local transportation.

Nearby cities: Attawapiskat First Nation, Peawanuck First Nation, Wapekeka First Nation

Coordinates:   52°46’3″N   86°3’4″W

The McFaulds Lake area remains Ontario’s most exciting exploration play. In 2002, De Beers discovered a base metal deposit (volcanogenic massive sulphide mineralization) while seeking diamonds on claims belonging to Spider Resources and KWG Resources. Local drilling led to numerous discoveries, including base metals and chromite. The region’s key players are Noront Resources, Freewest Resources, KWG Resources, Spider Resources and Probe Mines. In April 2009, Freewest estimated their chromite resource at 74 million tonnes (40 per cent Cr2O3 at $300 per tonne). Despite its size being unestimated, the base metal deposit shows great potential and new drilling continues to expand the resource. Noront’s recent drilling results indicate a distinct new gold zone on their McFaulds Lake property. Some of the area’s companies are starting to look at mine logistics. KWG has engaged a firm to provide engineering services for the construction of a rail line to the McFaulds Lake area. Noront has retained SNC-Lavalin to complete an infrastructure and transportation study. – See more at: http://www.cim.org/en/Publications-and-Technical-Resources/Publications/CIM-Magazine/Dec-2009-Jan-2010/coast-to-coast/Ontario.aspx#sthash.4cxmnG9m.dpuf

Mining company supports First Nation blockade at McFauld’s Lake

Noront Resources Ltd. (NOT:TSX) is supporting the actions of its exploration partner Marten Falls First Nation to block exploration in the Ring of Fire area of the James Bay Lowlands.

The Marten Falls First Nation, together with five other First Nations, plan to obstruct the landing strip on Kopper Lake, which companies use to access McFauld’s Lake. This will continue for an indefinite period.

In a Jan. 18 media release, Noront stated First Nations in the area “have become increasingly concerned by the lack of consultation with their communities concerning development in the Ring of Fire and a disregard for their environment.”

Noront CEO Wes Hanson says he contacted Marten Falls Chief Elijah Moonias to advise him that Noront considers the denial or service to be unfair, but the company will abide by his decision.

The blockade has the potential to disrupt winter drilling and exploration activities of more than 35 junior mining companies that are currently exploring the chromite, nickel and base metals deposit in Ring of Fire area.

This includes Cliffs Natural Resources and its estimated $1.5-billion plan to define the chromite mineral at McFauld’s Lake. The Cleveland-based miner wants to build a 350-kilometre ore haul railway to processing facilities at a to-be-determined site in northwestern Ontario.

McFauld’s Lake

Trump Property

The Trump property consists of 96 claim units comprising 1,536 hectares in the James Bay Lowlands, in which Orebodies holds an 80% interest through a joint venture agreement with Rainy Mountain Royalty. The property is located 28 km south east of the Noront nickel-copper-cobalt-PGE deposit, and approximately 75 km south west of the Noront Eagle Nest nickel-PGE deposit.

Four separate EM (electromagnetic conductor) targets that are interpreted to represent conductive sulphide zones have been outlined by a VTEM survey on the property. These occur along a magnetic feature that is interpreted to be a folded ultramafic complex which is a favourable environment for nickel-copper, or VMS (volcanogenic massive sulphide) deposits.

 Royalty interest

Orebodies holds a 1% NSR on 10 properties totalling 1,276 units (Claims held by Noront and Temex, located in the upper and middle of the ‘Ring of Fire’, which do not form part of the Eagle 1, 2 or AT12 discoveries reported by Noront)

Orebodies holds a 10% NPI on eight properties 100% owned by Ring of Fire Resources Inc (TSXV: ROF). The eight properties total 444 claim units comprising 7,104 hectares all which are located in the upper and middle of the ‘Ring of Fire’, James Bay Lowlands.

Orebodies holds an additional 10% NPI on Ring of Fire Resources Inc. 50% interest in seven properties (the 10% NPI retained by Orebodies on the portion of those properties held by Ring of Fire Resources, would be converted to a 0.15% net smelter returns royalty if Ring of Fire’s interest in those properties is reduced to less than 10% and therefore converted to a net smelter returns royalty). These properties are held through a joint venture with Macdonald Mines Exploration Ltd. (TSXV: BMK) and Temex Resources Corp. (TSXV: TME). The Properties consist of 891 claim units comprising 14,256 hectares, all which are located in the James Bay Lowlands ‘Ring of Fire’, Ontario.
