May The Words From Your Mouth Come From An “Artesian Well” In Your Soul.

May The Words From Your Mouth Come From An “Artesian Well” In Your Soul.

“You cannot preach conviction of sin unless you have suffered it. You cannot preach repentance unless you have practiced it. You cannot preach faith unless you have exercised it. True preaching is artesian; it wells up from the great depths of the soul. If Christ has not made a well within us, there will be no outflow from us.” Charles Spurgeon

Spurgeon was able to preach the Gospel powerfully because he experienced the Gospel in his practical, life…in his inner person. He was very effectual in his preaching. God worked through him. Though is it true that you don’t have to have to commit a sin before you can effectively exhort people to forsake it. For example a person does not have to be a heroin addict to preach that heroin use is bad. But it is true, that is a person has experienced something and struggled in a certain way in their walk with the Lord and came out of it by the power of Jesus and the Gospel…then that person’s testimony is a much more powerful tool. This experience with the Gospel is like an artesian well, placed in our hearts by God. An artesian well is a well that is deep in the ground and sheltered by bedrock so that contaminants can’t seep into it. Therefore it contains some of the freshest water. I believe that Spurgeon is saying that Jesus makes this well in our souls through our own spiritual experiences with him. From this well a servant of God can preach the pure Gospel…the unadulterated word of God to a spiritually thirsty world that only has salt water and contaminated water to drink.

Jesus alludes to this in John 4:13-`14 when he told the Samaritan woman, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” This is my “Life Key Verse”.
