Pipe Lake Mine- approx 50 miles South of Thompson. It is where Ed worked most of his career with INCO.  It had two open pit mines. Ed was a shift boss there. His hard work contributed to the development of that mine. I remember he drove me to the mine and we drove down to the bottom of the pit in an INCO pick up truck. The follow is a brief history and some pics.

In March, 1961, temporary buildings were erected by Inco at Pipe Lake, near Thompson, for exploration of a newly discovered ore body . In 1969 the development and operation of INCO’s first open pit mine (Pipe Lake) started. In 1970 the development of Pipe Nos. 1 and 2 open pits occurred and production began.  1984 production ends at Pipe Mine.
