The Open Pit Mine: It was 1981 or 1982 that INCO began dredging the small Thompson Lake that was going to be the open pit mine. I was a security guard at T3. The lake was in between T1 and T3 mine. I thought that the lake was highly polluted. Nobody I knew fished there. It was on private INCO land. They dredged it down to the bedrock and drained it. Then they started blasting and digging and crushing. It was a herculean effort. I have some photos of the dredge being taken away thanks to Jeff Kuzma’s post. I have a picture of the dredge in action at Pipe Lake Mine. I have a nice areal picture of the open pit. I tried to Google the open pit and there are so few pictures. Some pictures were from contributors to the 2nd and 3rd generation Facebook site. Thank you everyone, The dredge pictures are after the dredge served its purpose and was taken out of the pit. The dredge on the lake was the dredge working at the Pipe Lake mine site.
