It seems the that family of Nelson E. Jesmer was very busy in this year. His son, Hiram Bert Jesmer was traveling constantly to MPLS and other towns doing business. They were trying to start another general merchandise store in Spencer Brook. But it was not going to well. Nelson’s daughter Lola was also traveling a lot. Lots of Jesmer’s were traveling to upper state New York to visit the land of their birth. In 1900 there was nothing left of the old Jesmer farm, in between Hogansburg and Bombay NY except the old well. There are plays being performed at the Jesmer Opera House. There are dances at the Opera house and the farm of Joe Jesmer. (Joe at this time has one year to live. He is hosting dances and planning fundraisers for the church.) Nelson E. Jesmer’s family is involved in many service organizations.

Nelson Adulphus Jesmer, (Joseph’s oldest child) and his family is living in Langdon ND. Langdon is a bustling community. He is selling horses across the border into southern Manitoba, that he bought from the Natives. His daughter, Ida, is attending Catholic boarding school, run by nuns. The school is in southern Manitoba. I am sure that Nelson A. Jesmer has some sleepless nights thinking about all the political intrigue he left behind in Hibbing. He is also thinking about all the free farm land being offered to people in Canada. In four years he will be living in southern Manitoba near Kilarny.

Hubert Jesmer is sixteen years old. I suppose he is living on the farm and working hard on the farm. But he has other plans. He would later become part of circus.

2-15: Mrs Hiram Bert Jesmer entertained the Dorcas Ladies at her home.

Dorcas society:   From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Edwin Long’s A Dorcas Meeting in the 6th Century (painted 1873–1877) imagines a Dorcas society of Late antiquity.

A Dorcas society is a local group of people, usually based in a church, with a mission of providing clothing to the poor. Dorcas societies are named after Dorcas (also called Tabitha), a person described in the Acts of the Apostles (Chapter 9, v. 36).

One Dorcas society was founded in Douglas, Isle of Man in December 1834, as part of the community’s thanksgiving for being spared from an outbreak of cholera. Other Dorcas societies were established by missionaries in the Americas in the early 1800s. Beatrice Clugston founded the Glasgow Royal Dorcas Society in 1864. One English Dorcas society in Sydenham met during five Tuesdays in Lent, producing 166 garments in one year.[10] The Dorcas Society of Maine was founded in 1897 by Kate Douglas Wiggin as the Dorcas Society of Hollis & Buxton, Maine. The Dorcas Society of Maine is still active and provides academic scholarships and charitable contributions within its community.

Dorcas societies were at their height in the 1800s, but there are still Dorcas societies around the world, providing clothing and other physical needs.

Quo Vadis: A Narrative of the Time of Nero, commonly known as Quo Vadis, is a historical novel written by Henryk Sienkiewicz in Polish.

The novel Quo Vadis tells of a love that develops between a young Christian woman, Lygia (Ligia in Polish) and Marcus Vinicius, a Roman patrician. It takes place in the city of Rome under the rule of emperor Nero, c. AD 64.

Sienkiewicz studied the Roman Empire extensively before writing the novel, with the aim of getting historical details correct. Consequently, several historical figures appear in the book. As a whole, the novel carries a pro-Christian message.

It was first published in installments in the Gazeta Polska between 26 March 1895 and 29 February 1896, as well as in two other journals, Czas and Dziennik Poznański, starting two and three days later. It came out in book form in 1896 and has been translated into more than 50 languages. The novel contributed to Sienkiewicz’s Nobel Prize for literature in 1905.

Knights of the Maccabees was a fraternal organization formed in 1878 in London, Ontario, Canada. Most active in the U.S. state of Michigan, the group’s fraternal aspects took a backseat to providing low-cost insurance to members. In the society’s early years it also provided other final-expense related benefits such as society cemeteries.
