Hubert and Shirley are my Great-Great uncle and aunt. Hubert is the youngest child of Joseph A. Jesmer.  He is the 16th child. This man fascinates me because he is like a “living link to the past”. His dad, my great-great- grandfather, died of a stroke in 1901 and Hubert continued to live until 1964. One of his own daughters, Phyllis could be alive today (2016). Phyllis is probably the last grandchild of Joseph A. Jesmer, Hubert’s father. Hubert was the youngest child of 16 children. His brother, Nelson A. Jesmer, my great grandpa, as the oldest. Therefore Hubert was only ten years older than Nelson’s kids. Most Jesmer’s in western Canada are descended from Nelson and Hubert.

Genealogy is a hobby I share with my dad. He and I love history. He gave a lot of effort to gather family history over the last 20 years. I do some research and I posted a lot of it on the internet to share with other family members like yourself.

I also like learning about family history from the 1800’s to 1960’s. In my research I have learned so much about the history of Montreal, Upper state New York, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Montana and the provinces of Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

I like genealogy because it is a hobby that I can share with my father. We both enjoy new information about the history of the Jesmer clan.

Genealogy is like collecting. Some people collect stamps. I collect stories…life stories… of the Jesmer clan.

I may be harboring a dream where there can be huge family reunions. That may be a dream. Maybe the family reunion can be my “Jesmer Family” web site.

I also am interested in learning about others in the Jesmer clan who live in Western Canada. I was born and raised in Manitoba. I knew of other “Jesmer’s” there. For example, my parents received a letter addressed to a single man, living in the mine barracks, in Thompson. They returned the letter to him, but didn’t know who he was. In 1985 I saw a First Nation young man with a hockey Jersey with the name, “Jesmer” on the back. I told him my name was Jesmer too. I didn’t learn much from him at that time, but those other “Jesmer’s” became an intriguing mystery to me. Who were they? Who were they descended from? I now know that they are probably descended from Hubert and Shirley Jesmer.  And so began my quest to know more about the history of the Jesmer clan.
