This on-going collection of obituaries was started several years ago by the CamWood Genealogical Workshop with recent additions from the Stanwood Area Historical Society’s files. It is presented here as an expanded index; in addition to surname, given name and death date, each data line includes the birth name, place of birth and date of birth if given in the obit.
The primary source for the collection has been the Stanwood/Camano News published weekly in Stanwood, and serving not only Camano Island and Stanwood, but also the extreme south-western part of Skagit County. The majority of obituaries in the collection dates from the early 1960s to the present. Earlier obituaries have been obtained from other area libraries, archives, etc. As of September 2015, the data base contained over 13,000 individual obituaries. In 2013, twenty-six people (one from England!) contacted the CamWood Project to request copies of obits!
