Leon Sawicki’s First Wife, Anne Dutchyshen
Leon Sawicki’s First Wife, Anne Dutchyshen (1897-11/1926) .
Leon was my grandfather. I never saw him. He passed away on 4-13-1960, four years before I was born. He first married Anne and in January 1912 in Sifton MB, when Anne was 15 years old and Leon was 22. She bore Leon seven kids and died of tuberculosis in 11/26/1926, at the age of 29. She is buried in the old Polish cemetery, north of Shortdale Manitoba. Della (Sawicki) Jesmer, stated that Anne was Ukrainian. She taught her kids to speak Ukrainian. Leon was Polish. After Anne’s death, Leon married Emily. Emily was also Polish. But since the seven kids of Anne, spoke Ukrainian, the family continued to speak Ukrainian and of course, English.
